Indie York 2022: New space who dis?

Hot off the heels of their inaugural 2022 show in Manchester, this Sunday saw The Indie Wedding Fair’s first visit to the fabulous city of York. On what was the hottest day of the year so far, visitors to White Syke Fields enjoyed the glorious sunshine as they were treated to the very best the north has to offer to couples looking for a wedding less ordinary.

A stunning venue nestled in ancient Saxon woodland, White Syke Fields offers three contrasting spaces in one, each with its own unique appeal. For couples who want an unconventional space with built-in flexibility, this venue has it all, and was a natural fit for the vibe of The Indie Wedding Fair.

Having welcomed over 2000 visitors through its doors since the first event in Manchester in 2016, demand has seen The Indie Wedding Fair team expand the event into both Sheffield and, for the first time this year, York. Throughout the day, swathes of couples were able to connect with trusted suppliers who deliver consistently exceptional wedding goods and services in the region. Some of our absolute faves who’ve exhibited at previous Indie Wedding Fairs were there, including proud Yorkshireman and photographer extraordinaire Tim Dunk and the perennially joyous Viva la Booth

Sunday’s event in York also saw some amazingly talented newcomers make their Indie Wedding Fair debut, showcasing everything from stunning streamers that totally transform any space (Streamadelica) to incredible blooms and stunning floral installations that pop with  joie de vivre (Hyde Park Flower Club). We caught up with florist-extraordinaire Dottie for her take on the day:

“The Indie Wedding Fair held at White Syke Fields brought together some high quality, design-led suppliers in an amazing venue. Good vibes, great people and a wonderful atmosphere; there was a real community feel to it from a supplier perspective and we were able to network and benefit from this. We have had a couple of enquiries following the day, which just shows that the clientele the event appealed to were perfect for the suppliers who attended.”

Another newcomer to Team Indie was photographer and videographer Black Bear Media, whose founder Rafael had this to say about the day:

“The Indie Wedding Fair was brill! Awesome couples, rad backdrop in the shape of White Syke Fields (hope to shoot there often!) and fantastic vendors to get to know. Special thank you to Ellie and her team for putting it all together  Really looking forward to the next one!”

The Indie Wedding Fairs have featured some impressive live acts over the years, and this year’s York show was no exception. Michael Mulholland’s dulcet tones welcomed visitors in the stunning courtyard, whilst Married to the Music treated the masses to some wonderful violin solo pieces. We are firm believers that live music can elevate a wedding (and hey, life!) into something next level, so to experience live performers throughout the day really transformed the ambience of the space.

After two cracking events in Manchester and York, The Indie Wedding Fair’s third and final show of 2022 will be hitting up Sheffield on Sunday, 24th April. V.I.P tickets have SOLD OUT, but you can still simply head down on the day, where, as with the previous two fairs this year, donations are being taken for the Help Ukraine Emergency Appeal in lieu of walk-in tickets.

See you there, you lovely lot.

Massive shoutout to our official event photographer, Nate for capturing this day in all its glory.
